This wonderful flat is in North London’s Finsbury Park, which was previously a forgotten neighbourhood but is now a trendy ethnic magnet. There’s a bustling, cosmopolitan area with a strong feeling of community, as well as excellent transport links, a large park, and the rare possibility to find a Zone 2 rental home at a reasonable price (for London, at least). Finsbury Park is still the realm of new graduates, families, and long-established Turkish, Cypriot, and Ethiopian groups, although the surrounding districts have witnessed swaths of gentrification. With the Emirates stadium right on the doorstep and legendary match-day traffic, it’s also a hotspot for die-hard Arsenal supporters.
Local attractions include:
– Dotori- Delicious Korean Japanese restaurant Dotori has been a low-priced local favourite since it opened in 2008
– Traditional pubs, global eateries, and local shops cluster on busy streets like Blackstock Road (we have one property on this road) and Stroud Green Road, while Victorian houses line leafy side streets.
– Vagabon- Part of the trendy cafe wave currently sweeping through Finsbury Park, Vagabond is the place to come if you’re looking for a decent cup of coffee. They use beans from small producers including Has Been and Union Coffee for the ultimate taste, while the homemade cakes and flaky pastries are also worth a try.
– Faltering Fullback- Frequently touted as the best pub in Finsbury Park, the Faltering Fullback is a charming Irish pub filled with three floors vintage furnishings. It’s main selling point is the huge garden, which is packed with locals come rain or shine, but the Thai food is also worth a try.
– Rowans Ten Pin Bowling- Rowan’s is one of the last places in London where you’ll find neon decor which hasn’t changed since the 1980s, cheap games, vodka-spiked blue slushies and even a karaoke machine for after (6 minutes away from doorstep).
– Finsbury Park- One of the first Victorian parks laid out in London, the 110-acre Finsbury Park is potentially the area’s greatest asset. With a mix of open ground, formal gardens, woodland areas, and activities including boating on the lake, bowling, tennis and basketball, there’s always something different to do here (5 minutes away from doorstep).
– Park theatre- his small independent theatre is busy changing perceptions with their curated program of new talent and experimental dramas. An excellent spot to look out for rising acting and directing stars, the theatre also has a friendly cafe bar which is worth a visit.
– The castle climbing centre- The Castle is a dedicated climbing centre and is one of the premier centres in Europe. Since it first opened its doors to the public in October 1995 the Castle has grown and is still growing! The centre is now spread over 5 floors…with more yet to come. Housing over 450 roped and lead routes from 8m to 13m in height and an extensive range of bouldering surfaces we have something to suit everyone’s ability, from beginners to experts (10 minutes away).
The wonderful thing about ‘Finsbury Park’ (the district of the London Borough of Harringay where this flat is located) is that it is home to a diverse range of individuals, from families who relocate here for the peaceful leafy lanes and charming Victorian terraces. There is also lots to see and do for people of all ages and interests in this vibrant and diverse area.
