Staying longer in east London: choosing an apartment for everyday life

By NourNest ·

For several weeks in London, choose an apartment around the journeys and routines you will repeat. A visit to Shoreditch for a few nights is different from using it as a base for work, visiting relatives or finding a permanent home. Compare the exact location, practical facilities and written booking terms before deciding.

Map a normal week before choosing an area

Write down the destinations you expect to visit most: your workplace, a relative’s home, a course or an appointment. Use the actual postcode and the times you need to arrive. Compare the complete journey, including the walk to public transport and the final approach at the other end.

Old Street, Shoreditch and neighbouring areas offer different settings. Use NourNest’s neighbourhood guide to explore places you might use on a free morning, then check the everyday journeys independently. A lively weekend area may suit one guest and be less appealing to someone trying to sleep after a late shift.

Look beyond the number of guests a flat can sleep

For a longer stay, ask which beds are in separate bedrooms and whether the living room remains usable. A sofa bed may be convenient for a short visit but change the routine when someone uses it every night. Confirm dining seats, luggage space and any desk or workspace that matters to you.

If you will share with a colleague or relative, agree the sleeping arrangement before booking. Two guests do not automatically mean two separate beds. Ask for the exact layout rather than relying only on a bedroom count or general listing photograph.

Check the kitchen, laundry and cleaning arrangements

Think about a normal working day: breakfast, returning with groceries, washing clothes and sitting down to eat. Confirm the cooking equipment and storage you expect to use. Ask whether laundry is available in the apartment, shared or by arrangement, and whether any charges apply.

Check how cleaning and linen changes are arranged during the stay. Do not assume the same service frequency applies to every apartment or quote. If internet access is important for work, explain your needs and ask what can be confirmed for that property; a Wi-Fi symbol does not establish a particular connection speed.

Compare complete quotes and date-change terms

Use the same dates and party size when comparing accommodation. Ask for the total charge, compulsory fees, requested extras, deposit and payment schedule. Keep a refundable deposit separate from the cost of the stay when preparing your budget.

If your end date is uncertain, ask about amendments, early departure and extensions before committing. Extra weeks may depend on availability and a new quote; they are not reserved automatically. If an employer or another organisation is paying, confirm its approval and the invoicing requirements before booking.

Make time for the neighbourhood

A longer stay gives you room to revisit a favourite place instead of filling every free day with attractions. Choose a café, park or museum around your own interests. Check opening information and access directly, and keep travel time in mind if friends or family are joining you.

For visits with children, our east London family-day guide offers a flexible Young V&A outing and practical apartment questions. Our transport guide explains journey planning and where to find current TfL information.

Enquire about the exact NourNest apartment

Start with NourNest’s apartments, then send dates, guest numbers, sleeping preferences and essential facilities. Include your regular destination if location is a priority. Ask for a property-specific reply so you can compare the actual home with the routine you have planned.

You do not need to share personal medical details to explain an access requirement or say that you will attend appointments. Describe the practical feature you need, such as avoiding steps or having a separate bedroom for a companion.

Longer-stay questions

Is there always a monthly discount?

Ask for a quote for your dates. Availability, duration, property and terms can affect the price; a longer booking does not establish a particular saving.

Can I extend without moving apartments?

Ask whether the same apartment is available and obtain written confirmation of the additional dates, price and terms. An initial booking does not guarantee later availability.

What if I am waiting for a new home or an insurance decision?

Explain the dates currently known and ask about the terms if they change. Confirm any payer approval and reimbursement requirements separately. An accommodation quote does not establish insurance cover or a flexible cancellation right.
